POTH, TX – The San Antonio River Authority (River Authority) in partnership with Wilson County and the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, are hosting a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, March 21, from 8 a.m. until noon, at the Precinct 2 Yard, 1005 Railroad Street in Poth. Wilson County residents are encouraged to show their river pride by disposing of their unwanted household hazardous waste, tires, electronics, and unused pharmaceuticals.

“Through the successful relationship between Wilson County and the San Antonio River Authority we are able to provide residents in our community with a safe and secure venue for disposing of household hazardous waste,” said Wilson County Judge Jackson. “Through events like this we can maintain a cleaner environment for our residents and protect our rivers and streams.”

This collection event is solely for household hazardous waste, tires, and pharmaceuticals. Accepted items include paint, motor oil, oil filters, cleaning products, tires without the rim, small electronic appliances, computer components, televisions, and unwanted pharmaceuticals. The Wilson County Sheriff’s office collects and stores all pharmaceuticals until a certified medical waste vendor picks them up for proper disposal. Materials will be collected on a first-come, first-served basis.

“By working together with Wilson County on the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event, the River Authority can provide a service to the community while promoting the importance of protecting the river,” said River Authority Wilson County Board Member John Flieller. “We are pleased at the success we have had on these events and the partnership we have formed with Wilson County. Together we are working to protect the San Antonio River Watershed.”

Items such as large appliances, tires on the rim, construction debris, and scrap metal cannot be accepted. For a full list of items that will or will not be accepted, contact Meera Keshav, River Authority Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator, at 1-866-345-7272, ext. 3228, or visit the events page of the River Authority’s website at sara-tx.org.
