GOLIAD, TX – The San Antonio River Authority (River Authority) in partnership with Goliad County will host a free spring Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, May 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Goliad Memorial Auditorium parking lot. Goliad County residents are encouraged to show their river pride by disposing of their unwanted household hazardous waste, tires, electronics and unused pharmaceuticals. This event is held in partnership with Goliad County, the Goliad County Sheriff’s office, City of Goliad and the Goliad Soil Water Conservation District.

Anytime between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., Goliad County residents may stop by and drop off unwanted household hazardous waste such as tires, paint, used motor oil & filters, cleaning products, pesticides, computers, small electronics and pharmaceuticals. This is a free event and residents will be served on a first come, first serve basis. Large appliances, tires on the rim, construction debris and scrap metal will not be accepted.

“Due to the increase in participation for the HHW collection events, we are thrilled that in partnership with the City, County, Sheriff’s Office and our local Soil Water Conservation District, the San Antonio River Authority is hosting another event this spring,” said City of Goliad Mayor Brenda Moses. “I am excited that once again we are proving government entities can work in harmony with citizens for the benefit of all.”

The River Authority’s vision is to inspire river pride and bring awareness to the detriments of improper waste disposal. Proper disposal of household hazardous wastes will lead to the reduction of waste runoff into our river. The River Authority is grateful to its local partners, governments, and organizations that work together to take care of our watershed.

“Last year’s collection event brought in over 13,000 pounds of household hazardous waste and 11,000 pounds of electronic waste from Goliad residents alone,” said Goliad County member of the San Antonio River Authority Board of Directors Dr. Jim Fuller. “We are pleased that strong participation continues for the collection events and that residents value the convenient alternative to properly dispose of unwanted items.”

For a full list of items that will or will not be accepted, contact Meera Keshav, River Authority Government Affairs Coordinator, at 1-866-345-7272, ext. 3228, or visit the events page at www.sariverauthority.org.
