GOLIAD, TX – The San Antonio River Authority (River Authority) is hosting their annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection event for Goliad County residents on Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Goliad Memorial Auditorium Parking Lot. Partners include Goliad County, City of Goliad, the Goliad Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Goliad Sheriff’s Office.

Anytime between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., Goliad County residents may stop by and drop off unwanted household hazardous waste such as tires, paint, used motor oil & filters, cleaning products, pesticides, computers, small electronics, and pharmaceuticals. This is a free event and is first come first serve.

“At last year’s collection event, we received nearly 6,000 pounds of waste. That’s nearly 6,000 pounds of harmful chemicals properly disposed of in addition to almost 500 tires,” said Alicia Cowley, Goliad County member of the San Antonio River Authority Board of Directors. “Joint efforts like this collection event help ensure the health and well being of our precious watershed community.”

The River Authority hopes that hosting annual household hazardous waste collection events will lead to a reduction in waste entering our water and bring awareness to communities about the negative effects of improperly disposing waste. The River Authority’s vision is to inspire actions for healthy creeks and rivers and is grateful to the local partners, governments, and organizations that work together to make the collection events successful.

For a full list of items that will or will not be accepted, contact Meera Keshav, River Authority Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator, at 1-866-345-7272, ext. 3228, or visit the events page at www.sara-tx.org.
