The San Antonio River Authority (River Authority) staff is committed to safe, clean, enjoyable creeks and rivers but we need YOU to help us protect and preserve area natural resources for future generations. One action you can take is to join the River Authority and the San Antonio River Foundation by becoming a River Warrior. This program aims to build a volunteer community that supports and strives toward healthy waterways for the benefit of the flora, fauna, and people of the San Antonio River Basin. There are many other ways you can get involved and Be River Proud! We want to highlight your positive actions, so please share with us pictures or videos of you and your loved ones on social media using #BeRiverProud. Once a month, we’ll feature your stories on our blog.

This month, we’re highlighting videos from our followers featuring two River Authority Southern Basin parks! Read along to learn about a new hobby and/or add a new running route to your list!

River Authority Nature Parks

Graytown Park on the San Antonio River

The River Authority owns and operates more than 500 acres of parks, which include more than 28 miles of hike and bike trails, and over 60 miles of paddling trails along the San Antonio River’s 240-mile course.

Graytown Park is located at 1239 CR 125 in Elmendorf, TX right on the San Antonio River. This park features a tournament caliber Par 57 level disc golf course designed by the world’s premier Disc Golf Course designer, John Houck of HouckDesign. The course brings beginners, amateurs, and experienced disc golfers from Texas and beyond. Your family and friends of all ages can enjoy the course at no cost!

Breezy McMahon’s YouTube channel takes you across Texas to disc golf courses near and far. In the two- part series of Graytown Park below, he guides you on a virtual tour with details at each par. Be sure to check out part 1 and part 2 of his videos and the behind the scenes look of this world-class disc golf course.

John William Helton San Antonio River Nature Park in Floresville, TX. The 98-acre park includes amenities like primitive camping, river and paddle trail access, sports areas, and a playground! With over three miles of trails, Helton Nature Park is a great place to exercise without having to worry about vehicle traffic. The trails are natural surfaces, so proper footwear is suggested. Bicycles with wide tires, like BMX and mountain bikes, are recommended. Road bikes are discouraged due to rough, natural terrain.

Thanks to @LittlleZulee (TikTok) for creating this fun TikTok of the Helton Nature Park trail. Events such as 5Ks, farmers markets, and our own River Authority events are activated throughout the year. Follow us on the Helton Nature Park Facebook page to stay up to date with events at the park!
