The San Antonio River Authority (River Authority) staff is committed to safe, clean, enjoyable creeks and rivers but we need YOU to help us protect and preserve area natural resources for future generations. There are many ways you can get involved and Be River Proud! We want to highlight your positive actions so please share with us pictures or videos of you and your loved ones on social media using #BeRiverProud. Once a month, we’ll choose among these to share on our blog.

Need some inspiration? Here are this month’s submissions:

Jacob Rux – Biking and Photographing the San Antonio River

Meet Jacob Rux! He enjoys biking the Mission Reach section of the San Antonio River Walk and volunteers to maintain the San Antonio Bike Share equipment along the trail.

Jacob Rux likes to take beautiful photos like this one of the San Antonio Missions when he's biking the Mission Reach segment

When he’s not volunteering, he also enjoys visiting the Mission Reach art portals which connect to the San Antonio Missions. He takes beautiful photos which he has shared with the River Authority for many years. Thank you for sharing your love of the San Antonio River!

Peter Joseph – Observing Wildlife along the San Antonio River

The River Authority invited River Warrior volunteers and friends to join the first seasonal Summer 2020 Bio-blitz August 22-23. Participants contributed to a worldwide database by documenting nature observations throughout the San Antonio River Basin.

Peter Joseph earned the most observations as part of our Summer 2020 Bio-Blitz.

The participant with the most observations was Peter Joseph with a total 69 submissions! When asked what he loved to observe along the San Antonio River, Peter said he loved all his findings, “whether it be a new (native) plant, a new pollinator, new fish, or bird. Especially when that observation – makes me think, ’Oh wow, I did not know that was living on the San Antonio River!’”

Peter Joseph recorded this white-eyed Vireo observation as part of our Summer 2020 Bio Blitz

Among the observations Peter submitted as part of the Summer 2020 Bio-blitz, Peter mentioned that some of his favorites were a patch of frogfruit, a black and white Warbler, and a white-eyed Vireo which were captured while he was enjoying Helton San Antonio River Nature Park with his wife. Thank you for participating in our Bio-blitz and congratulations on having the most recorded observations!
