About Us

What does the San Antonio River Authority do?

Funded by property taxes, the River Authority upholds a commitment to “providing safe, clean and enjoyable creeks and rivers,” which in its 83 years has led to a multitude of partnerships, research initiatives, and projects that integrate public health with ecosystems and sustainability with economic development.

Projects

The Environmental Sciences Department regularly works on small or short-term (less than 5 years) water quality, pollution investigations, or scientific studies.

Sustainability

The San Antonio River Basin Interactive Green Infrastructure Map provides a place to share Green Infrastructure projects funded by the San Antonio River Authority, access resources and learn how you can participate.

Reduce Flood Risk

The River Authority uses comprehensive planning, precision protection, strategic partnership, and community preparedness to help communities throughout the San Antonio River Basin reduce the devastating effects of flooding.

River Health

Learn how our Water Quality Scientists, Aquatic Biologists, Stormwater Scientists and Environmental Investigators are monitoring and improving river health every day.

Utilities

The San Antonio River Authority is a full-service wastewater utility provider within its district. The River Authority recognizes that communities are finding it increasingly difficult to meet their water and wastewater needs.

Developers

The San Antonio River Authority owns, maintains and/or operates assets in the San Antonio River Watershed which covers Bexar, Wilson, Karnes and Goliad counties including dams, parks, and wastewater treatment plants.
